Nearby Locations is a smart, proximity-based feature in Travonee that helps you discover and capture every travel spot you come across, especially when you’re physically very close to it. It ensures you never miss marking a place you’ve visited and builds your personal Sri Lanka travel history automatically.

How to Use Nearby Locations
- Proximity Trigger When you’re physically very close to a Travonee-listed travel location, the system automatically detects it using your device’s GPS.
- A Check-in button will instantly become enabled in the Nearby Places section on the homepage.
- You will also receive a push notification informing you that you’re near a special place and can check it in right away.
- Mark as Visited Tap the enabled Check-in button to mark that location as visited. This adds it to your personal travel log instantly.
- View Your Visited Places Go to your profile → Visited section to see the complete list of all places you’ve checked in to. You can view details, photos and even share your travel footprint with the Travonee community.
Technical Explanation & Limitations
Nearby Locations relies on your device’s GPS technology to detect proximity to places in our database. While highly accurate in open areas, GPS performance can be affected by several real-world factors:
- Indoor locations or tall buildings may reduce accuracy or cause delayed detection.
- Poor weather conditions (heavy rain, storms) can sometimes interfere with satellite signals.
- Some older or budget smartphones may have weaker GPS chips, leading to less precise location readings.
- In rare cases, you may see a nearby place notification slightly late or not at all due to these limitations.
The system shows places based on proximity, not actual travel distance or route time (use Travonee Map or Directions for that).
