About Travonee Map

Travonee Map is a powerful, interactive, real-time map built specifically for Sri Lanka, currently showcasing over 1,000 carefully curated travel places, from famous cultural sites like Sigiriya and Kandy Temple to hidden beaches, hill country escapes in Ella, wildlife parks in Yala, and much more.

This map goes far beyond basic mapping by helping you:

  • Focus instantly on your current location
  • View places within a customizable radius
  • Filter by specific categories
  • Check exact distances and estimated travel times
  • Get full place details with one click

How to Use Travonee Map – Step by Step

  1. Open the Map. When you first arrive on the Travonee Map, you will see over 1,000+ locations marked across the entire island.
  2. Focus on Your Current Location If you want to see places near where you are right now, tap the focus button in the address field.
    • This automatically detects your location (you must enable location services and grant Travonee access to your GPS).
    • Once focused, the map centers on you.
  3. Adjust Search Radius. By default, the map shows all places within a 50 km radius around your location (or any selected point).
    • Use the slider to increase or decrease the radius.
    • Switch units between km and miles as preferred.
  4. Category Filtering Use the category dropdown to narrow down results. e.g., show only beaches, national parks, viewpoints, historical sites, etc., within your selected radius.
  5. Search Any Place (Even Without Location) If the address field is empty, you can still filter places island-wide using the category dropdown.
  6. View Nearby Places List After selecting a radius or place:
    • On mobile: Swipe from the left to see a sorted list of places by proximity.
    • On desktop/PC: The list appears below the map.
  7. Place Details & Actions Click any marker or list item to open details:
    • Place name, full address, open/close status, photos, description, etc.
    • Directions button shows exact distance and estimated travel time from your current location (or any chosen point).
    • Google Maps button redirects directly to Google Maps for turn-by-turn navigation and more detailed routing.
    • Details button opens the complete place page with even more info, user tips, and etc.
  8. Filter Row & POI Controls Use the filter button in the filter row to refine which types of POIs (points of interest) are shown on the map at any time.

Technical Explanation & Limitations

Travonee Map is built on top of the Google Maps API for smooth performance, accurate markers, and reliable directions.

  • Radius view shows straight-line (as-the-crow-flies) distances to places within your selected area, not actual travel distance or time.
  • Directions panel gives real driving/walking travel time and route.
  • Location detection uses your device’s GPS. Real-world factors can affect accuracy:
    • Indoor locations or tall buildings may delay or reduce precision.
    • Bad weather (heavy rain, storms) can interfere with satellite signals.
    • Some older or low-end devices may have weaker GPS chips, leading to less accurate results.
